OLATHE, Kan. ... Berry women's golfer Jayne Curtis was named a first-team All-American by the NAIA national office on Thursday afternoon. Her teammate Amy Goble earned honorable mention honors for her 2007 performance.
Curtis, a freshman from Calhoun, Ga., was the low-medalist at the 2007 Region XIII Championship this year and helped lead Berry to its third-straight Region XII/XIII team title. As a freshman she had a scoring average of 78.52 strokes-per-round.
Five times this season she finished in the top-10 in tournament play. She also became the first player in Berry women's golf program history to shoot a round under-par when she shot 72 at the par-73 Riveria Club during the Lady Falcon Invitational.
Goble, a junior from Cleveland, Tenn., earned honorable mention honors after posting seven top-10 finishes during the season. She was the individual medalist at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate with a score of 223 over the three-day tournament.
She is the team-leader in stroke average finishing the season with a 77.33 strokes-per-round average. She has helped lead Berry to three-straight Region XII/XIII tournament titles and will go for her fourth next year.
The Vikings finished the season ranked No. 6 in the final NAIA National Rankings. Berry ended up finishing 14th at the NAIA National Tournament after shooting a team score of 1327. The Lady Vikings did not have the benefit of their All-American Curtis at the Championship Tournament after Curtis came down with an illness that prevented her from traveling to California for the event.
Jennifer Tallent is the only senior on the team. That means that the Vikings will return both All-Americans for a run at the NAIA National Title next season.
