Rome, Ga. - Shorter College Athletics announced on Thursday that Greg Owens has been selected as the new head coach of the Lady Hawks women's golf team. He has previously served, and will continue to serve, as a major gift officer for Shorter's institutional advancement office.
Owens played collegiate golf and baseball, graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in physical education, and received his Masters in leadership from Shorter.
"Ultimately, it is our goal to have a coach for each and every team, both men and women's," said athletic director Bill Peterson. "We are now one step closer to that goal. Greg has been an excellent amateur golfer and possesses strong recruiting, administrative and fund raising skills. He will be a great addition to what is already an impressive group of coaches."
Owens will take over the position previously held by coach Ahmad Hayat. Hayat will continue to serve as the men's head coach.
