SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Led by a good performance from senior Amy Goble, the Berry women's golf team continued to improve at the NAIA National Tournament, jumping to No. 8 in the standings. The Lady Vikings shot 320 in the third round and are now at 330-326-320=976 for the tournament.
 
Goble, one of two seniors on the Berry team, shot a 77 in the third round to pace the Berry team. She has a three-day total of 83-78-77=238. Goble is currently tied for 11th place.
 
Berry's Elizabeth Gemmill rallied from two dissapointing rounds to shoot the team's second-best score of the day, a 78. Gemmill is now shooting 91-87-78=256 for the tournament.Callie Bennett also manged to improve her play on day three, shooting an 82 after posting back-to-back rounds of 84, to give her a total score of 84-84-82=250.
 
The team's other senior, Gwen Wiencek, rounded out the top four on the day with a round of 83. That brings her three-day total to 87-82-83=252 for the tournament. Berry's Jayne Curtis had the high round of the day, she shot an 87 to bring her tally to 76-82-87=245 for the tournament.
 
At 976 Berry trails both Lindsey Wilson and Lubbock Christian by just one stroke. The two schools are tied for sixth with identical scores of 975. Embry Riddle leads the tournament with a score of 941. The Eagles feature the tournament's top golfer, Tara Allen, who is shooting 76-74-77=227 for the tournament. Shorter also made the cut and is currently 14th with a score of 995.
 
The Vikings are in the final grouping for tomorrow's final round. The first member of the Berry team will tee off at 12:50 p.m. (pacific time) for the final round. The NAIA National Championship Tournament is being played at the 5,961-yard, par-72, Lake San Marcos Country Club from May 20-23.
