Lee University first baseman Chris Warters was named the NAIA Region XIII Player of the Year and Flames' coach Mark Brew was selected as the coach of the year during a presentations at Olympic Field on Tuesday evening during the first round of play in the region tourney.

Warters, a junior from Los Angeles, Calif. is currently hitting .439 with 68 RBI, 15 home runs and 24 doubles.  Brew, in only his second year as head coach of the Flames, directed his club to a current 54-7 record and a No. 3 ranking in the NAIA national poll.

All totaled, the Flames placed five players on the 17-player All-Region XIII team. Kevin Wyman landed an outfield position and Chris Dubon was selected as a catcher. Dallas Sims was listed as a starting pitching and Pablo Lopez got top honors in a relief hurler role.

Other members of the NAIA All-Region XIII club were: second base, Jared Baria, Mobile; third base, Joshua Borges, Loyola (New Orleans); shortstop, Kody Hightower, Southern Wesleyan; infield, Allen Ponder, Auburn-Montgomery; outfield, Kevin Leslie, Faulkner; outfield, Jared Willis, Reinhardt; outfield, Josh Grooms, Southern Poly; catcher, Andrew Brouillette, LSU-Shreveport; pitcher, Mark Doll, Southern Poly; pitcher, Guy Howard, Southern Wesleyan; pitcher, Justin Bracewell, Mobile; and designated hitter, Daniel Jape, Reinhardt.

The Region XIII All-Gold Glove Team was also announced. It included: Allen Ponder, first baseman, Auburn-Montgomery; Reg Ott, right field, Bellhaven; Brent Hudson third base, Belhaven; Brian Bistagne, shortstop, Lee; Chris Dubon, catcher, Lee; Nelson Curry, left field; Baker Romine, second base, Brewton-Parker; Matt McCalley, pitcher, Berry.
